The Climate Emergency in 50 Rounds: Fotobokfestival Oslo Exhibition 2020

The Climate Emergency in 50 Rounds — Fotobokfestival Oslo 2020. Oslo, Norway, September 10-20, 2020. Photos: Tor S Ulstein.

The Climate Emergency in 50 Rounds
was produced in conjunction with Forbundet Frie Fotografer (FFF) for the Fotobokfestival Oslo 2020. The festival exhibition took place in the real world, September 10-20, with a Symposium and related programming following online. The exhibition contains works made by 50 photo book artists and artist collectives whose work urgently responds to the climate crisis. See Intro for more information.

The festival was designed as a space for “direct pedagogy” — an expanded library built for public engagement, dedicated to the movement of knowledge from the institution to the street. The physical exhibition was presented in three subject areas, each of which occupies its own container — Nature: Process and Representation; Documents and Evidence; and Zines and Direct Action. A thorough explanation of these three subject areas appears in the film below — Guided Tour.

Also included in the exhibition were related video works — the videos range from meditations on humanity’s relationship with nature in the 21st century, to the documenting of experimental protests against multinational corporations. Some of these videos can be found on the Artists’ Pages listed below.
